Get ready for winter
Advice from the Met Office on keeping warm and well when travelling or at home this winter.
Roads
The council grits roads to reduce delays caused by bad weather and to help road safety.
Priority is given to city centre pavements and paths and to those that give access to schools, hospitals and care providers.
The rest of the network is prioritised according to use and potential risk.
Grit bins
Grit bins are provided to clear neighbourhood roads and paths when there is snow and ice.
The grit in the yellow grit bins is to be used on public roads and pavements only - it is not for private use, e.g. private driveways.
To clear your driveway or footpaths you may wish to purchase salt or grit from local building suppliers or DIY stores, or use table or dishwasher salt.
