This autumn could you make a difference that could last a lifetime?
Newport City Council is looking for committed and caring people to offer a secure and loving home to local children and young people.
Councillor Paul Cockeram, cabinet member for social services, said: "In these difficult times, it's more important than ever that children feel safe and secure.
During the coronavirus pandemic, staff in our Foster Newport team have kept in regular contact with our foster carers who are keeping children safe and active at home. They have also been continuing to work with those who wish to join our amazing network of foster carers.
"The fantastic job that our foster carers do has been even more important during these difficult times. We need more people to care for Newport's young people."
Although it's not quite business as usual, our friendly team are still able to answer your questions, deal with enquiries and process them.
Some children and young people require a safe and loving home for short periods, including overnight stays, or for a longer time until they become adults. Foster carers are also needed for families who want a regular or one-off break.
Maybe your own children have flown the nest or you are looking for a life change. Becoming a foster parent can be one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.
We are seeking people who can be positive role models and give children and or young people support, encouragement and a sense of belonging. Applications are welcome from people from all types of background.
There are many different ways to foster including fostering teenagers, being a therapeutic carer, respite carers, emergency carers or fostering sibling groups and children with additional needs.
People who become part of our foster family are offered learning and development opportunities as well as practical and financial support. You will have your own social worker, as will the child, and there will always be someone to talk to if you need them.
