Newport city council is reminding people that outdoor gatherings are banned under the current Welsh Government firebreak rules which are in place until 9 November.

If you are planning on having fireworks at home remember, no one outside of your household will be able to visit – not even in the garden.
People need to think carefully and not gather with friends or extended family during this firebreak period. The restrictions are in place help keep the virus under control to keep people safe - it is essential we all follow the rules.

Councillor Roger Jeavons, cabinet member for city services said: “It is also important to remember that that bonfires are not permitted on council land and will be classed as fly tipping. Households have a legal responsibility to make sure any rubbish is disposed of correctly.

“If you have your rubbish removed and it ends up being fly-tipped, you could be held responsible and fined. Please store any waste safely until the HWRC reopens or book a bulky waste collection online.”

To book a bulky collection visit www.newport.gov.uk/recycling.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service do not advise anyone to burn garden or household waste and to think of their neighbours and those who may also be self-isolating with symptoms of Covid-19.
