City Deal

The Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) City Deal aims to create jobs and boost economic prosperity across south east Wales by improving transport links, increasing skills, helping people into work and giving businesses the support they need to grow.

The £1.2 billion deal was formally ratified by the ten partner authorities of Newport, Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Torfaen and the Vale of Glamorgan on 1 March 2017.

Funding includes £734m for the South Wales Metro of which over £500m is provided by the Welsh Government and £125m by the UK Government.

The UK Government has provided a £375m contribution and the ten local authorities have agreed a commitment to borrow a combined total of £120 million.

The Cardiff Capital Region Cabinet will bring together the local authority leaders in order to join up decision making, pool resources and develop partnerships with businesses.
